10 Things To Do With A PAssion Silver Card

All around the world, reaching one’s senior years is considered an important milestone. By then, senior citizens have a wealth of experience that has made them stronger and wiser. More often than not, they would have grown children who are already raising their own kids. They’ve spent their earlier years working—in their profession or household—and giving all they can for the sake of their loved ones.

But as they enter the 60-year mark, the world also starts to give back.

In Singapore alone, there are a variety of ways living as a senior can be convenient and comfortable. In fact, the Ministry of Health (MOH) launched last year its 70 initiatives for successful ageing—which covers health and wellness, learning, volunteerism, employment, housing, transport, public spaces, respect and social inclusion, retirement adequacy, healthcare and aged care, protection for vulnerable seniors, and research. One specific program under the MOH’s Action Plan for Successful Ageing is the PAssion Silver Card.

In 2005, the People’s Association (PA) launched the PAssion Card, which not only served as its membership card but also offered exclusive privileges for PA’s programmes and promotions from its partners. Last year, the PAssion Silver Card was introduced, wherein senior citizens can benefit from reduced transport fares and more discounts and privileges from its network of merchants. And yes, this card is free!

Excited to know what deals are in store for our beloved senior citizens? We bring you 10 ways how senior citizens can get the most out of their PAssion Silver Card:

1. Save on public transport.

For our seniors in Singapore, the highly efficient public transport is also cheaper. With the PAssion Silver Card, they can enjoy concessionary fares or at least 25% lower than adult rates when they pay using the card in trains and buses.

For senior citizens who frequently travel between their home, their children’s home, or the supermarket, they can opt to buy the Hybrid Monthly Concession Pass at $60 for unlimited bus and train rides for a certain period. But if timing is not an issue, they can opt for the Off-Peak Pass at $40 for unlimited rides within these windows: from start of service to 6:29 am, 9:01 am to 4:59 pm, 7:31 pm until end of service on weekdays, and all day on weekends and public holidays.

Tip: Seniors must ensure they have the PAssion Silver Concession Card for this senior citizen benefit and not the PAssion Silver Card (Non-Concession) which does not cover the transportation deal.

2. Cross the street at their own pace.

Crossing busy streets can be more convenient and less daunting with Green Man +. Nope, he’s not a modern comic book superhero—although in a sense he is, what with helping the elderly and persons with disability cross the streets in a safer manner. Using their PAssion Silver Card, senior citizens can simply tap it on the traffic pole’s reader located above the push button. The time extension ranges from 3 to 13 seconds, depending on how big the crossing is.

Check out this list to see if the Green Man + function is available in your neighbourhood.

3. Get moving with PA’s programmes and courses.

A saying goes, “Retirement is when you stop living at work, and start working at living.”

PA offers numerous programmes and courses, so seniors can discover new skills, hobbies, and even friends. Whether it’s painting or yoga, the PAssion Silver Card is their gateway for easy access to these activities. For as low as $2 (versus the regular $10 rate), they can enrol in a Course Xpress. If they’re the adventurous type, they are also entitled to 50% off water sports courses in all PA Water-Venture Outlets.

Going for a PA course is a great chance for them to spend time with their peers. They can choose one here and visit the nearest Community Club.

4. Earn reward points every time they shop.

Gone are the years when shopping was merely listing needed items, scouring products with the best quality, bargaining for the fairest price, then going home—financially and physically tired. Shopping now means so much more for our dear elderly!

With their PAssion Silver Card, they earn a point for every dollar spent in participating stores like Giant via the PAssion TapForMore rewards programme. These points can be converted to purchasing dollars, such as for those moments when they suddenly remember they need something but are short on cash. Oops!

5. Feel extra privileged at Giant.

Senior citizens get 1 PAssion TapForMore point per dollar spent at Giant. Indeed, they will enjoy the purchase discounts…but the fun at Giant doesn’t end there!

Seniors can also schedule their grocery days every Tuesday so they can get 3% off their purchases. Plus, Giant also gives four exclusive senior citizen deals every week!

6. Explore the world.

Who says the days of traveling are over once you cross the senior mark? Seniors can continue—or start—adventures with exclusive travel promotions courtesy of PAssion merchants.

Take this, for example: if they’d like to see vibrant sceneries, they could consider traveling to Fiji since if they book until December 31, 2017, they can get 10% off their return ticket. Booking at Singapore Airlines also entitles them to 5% discount.

7. Get access to more books and films.

This PAssion Silver Card offer should bookworms smile. The National Library Board is giving cardholders five-year partner membership, which entitles them to loan as many as 10 items, including four audio-visual materials, without additional fees. The usual is up to eight only, making this a true senior citizen card benefit.

In this age of smartphones, flipping through a book is a welcome escape. This is something senior citizens can happily do with their grandchildren as well.

8. Score discounts almost anywhere.

The PAssion Silver Card is perfect for our aunties and uncles who love lobangs! PAssion has over 1,000 partner merchants ready to give deals for senior citizens.

We’ll let the deals do the talking: at Econ Chinese Medicine, they can get 10% off acupuncture, tui na, cupping/scrapping, and herbal medication. Concorde Hotel Singapore slashes 15% off their meals. At Japan Home, they can get 5% discounts on regular-priced items.

Seniors no longer have to wait for seasonal sales or promotions just to get hearty deals. Instead, these senior citizen benefits come to them. Sweet!

9. Learn something they’ve always wanted.

If the seniors at home are looking for something to do, show them the senior citizen classes or courses featured regularly at PAssion Card’s website!

Here’s an example: They can learn to cook healthy Asian dinners by enroling in a short course for only $2 using their PAssion Silver Card. There are also flower arrangement classes, craft workshops, and many more!

10. Even more rewards: convert STAR$® to TapForMore points.

With the PAssion Silver Card, both PAssion TapForMore and STAR$® points can be used interchangeably. That’s more rewards with less hassle for redemption whenever seniors are shopping at Cold Storage, Market Place, Giant, and Guardian stores located within CapitaLand malls.

PA and its partners continue building partnerships to offer the elderly senior citizen benefits that will make their life more exciting and convenient. What a treat. They truly deserve it!
